Much like the rest of the veggies, we started our ORGANIC SQUASH in the bunk house under indoor lights early in April. Squash needs to be sow in soil that is over 56 degrees or the seeds will not germinate. We planted three strains of squash this season, Yellow Crooked Neck, Butternut, and Yellow Summer, into planters and CT Grow Bags. We transplanted two weeks after the last frost, planting about a meter apart to allow for huge growth. The crew watered daily making sure to water up to 2 gallons per plant per week, and kept the area well mulched. We began harvesting our summer and Yellow Crooked Neck squash in July and continued picking regularly to encourage production, until the first frost. Our Butternut squash will continue producing throughout the fall until the first snow.comments powered by Disqus
